Shot my surplus Mosin-Nagant, muh AK and some other stuff. Amazingly, I found I could hit steel at 300 yards with the horrible Mosin-Nagant iron sights.

I love the irons on my Nagant. They are great.

If you say so! I've thought about putting an optic on mine... but it just ruins the nostalgia- even though mine was an ex-sniper at one point.

Yeah, I bought the kit to put the scope on mine, but I didn't want to have to modify , plus hitting the 400 yd with irons is fun, especially since I put the bayonet on when I am shooting.

Dude: You're trolling for people to say what a good shot you are! 300 yards. Sheesh.
Iron sites are a lot more durable than glass sites and most folks' eyesight is not good enough to pick out a shot at that distance.

I must be going blind, I can't hit shit with open sights beyond 100 yrds.

Like saying, "Damn, I had my Corvette out on the Nurburgring, but my tires were only rated to 140 mph, so I only drove 139."
;o)

The only reason I know that I hit the target... is because its a steel plate that goes *PING*
Otherwise, nothing wrong with irons but the Russians never had good irons.

Agreed. I have to use binoculars and high-viz paper targets.

That's interesting. And thank you for reading my comments in the friendly spirit in which they were intended.
I love plinking. Better than poking holes in paper any day. In fact, I won't spend money on bullets just to poke holes in paper.

Very nice!
I ran out of range-to-shoot-at at 200yd with my Mosin and it was getting pretty far off by then. Cheap ammo wasn't helping either. I need to figure out how to adjust the sights a bit - it's consistent but not quite in the right spot. I sort of want to put a scope on it just for its sheer power and accuracy.
